Riyadh: Saudi Arabia plans to phase out the recruitment of expatriates only under the sponsorship of natives (Kafala) by the middle of next year.
According to the report, a plan aimed at improving relations between expatriate workers and employers will be announced next week.
If the decision is implemented, the 70-year-old Kafala system will be abolished. Instead, Saudi Arabia will usher in a new history of work based on accurate employment contracts.
Currently it is not possible to change jobs or go home without the permission of the sponsor.
All such strict conditions will change in the new system.
There are about one crore expatriates in Saudi Arabia.
